BYU Football finished with an 11-2 record last year. What is the expectation for this year?

BYU Football had a great season last year, winning 11 of 13 games. The Cougars had some blowouts, close calls, and a couple of rough losses. BYU exceeded expectations and won the Alamo Bowl 36-14 against Colorado. The Cougars were expected to win four and a half games. BYU had a few big upsets and silenced the doubters.
BYU was excellent on special teams last year. Parker Kingston and Keelon Marion combined for five special teams touchdowns, with Talan Alfrey returning a surprise onside kick against Houston for a touchdown. Kicker Will Ferrin went 24-27 on field goals and was perfect on extra points. A few special teams trick plays also gave the Cougars a boost.
BYU’s defense led the nation in interceptions. The Cougars were good at punishing opponents for turnovers and running away with games. The best example of this is the Kansas State game in Provo. BYU forced turnovers on three straight Wildcat drives, leading to 21 points on the way to a 38-9 victory. The defense was also good at getting to the quarterback and forcing sacks.

BYU’s offense was pretty good. They could get hot and move the ball effectively. However, things weren’t clicking at times, and BYU had to come out stronger in the second half. The Cougars had some offensive explosions against teams like Arizona and Wyoming.
2025 way-too-early BYU Football predictions
BYU Football has a lot of momentum from last season. They also have a tough schedule coming up. It starts simple with a visit from Portland State before a good Stanford team comes to Provo. BYU then heads to East Carolina and starts Big 12 play at Colorado.
BYU then hosts West Virginia before heading to Arizona. The Holy War comes next, with BYU hosting Utah. BYU then goes on the road at Iowa State and Texas Tech. The Cougars travel to Cincinnati before hosting UCF for Senior Night. BYU has a tough Big 12 schedule, and it will take a team effort to win games.

BYU should beat Portland State and can beat Arizona. West Virginia will be difficult, as well as Utah. Colorado and East Carolina will be a challenge, and UCF could go either way. Cincinnati is always a good game, and Stanford should be a win. Iowa State could be a tough opponent and Texas Tech will be hard. TCU is good some years and bad in others, so it is tough to say.
Of course, these are just the spring predictions, so it could be very different in the fall. Realistically, I see this team going 10-2 and getting a bowl game. BYU has the fight, the discipline, and the talent to win games. The Cougars need to take some notes from last year’s success and carry it over into 2025. The Cougars can win games, and if they stay humble and focused, they can win big. Only time will tell, and it will be fun to see what happens. Go Cougars!
