BYU Football is back, and the Cougars will face the Portland State Vikings on Saturday evening.

BYU Football is back. The Cougars are facing the Portland State Vikings of the FCS to start the season. BYU is a heavy favorite, and it should be a straightforward game. The Cougars have a new quarterback and a few new defensive pieces, but for the most part, a pretty solid team.
BYU Football started with nine straight wins last year before back-to-back losses to Kansas and Arizona State. The Cougs finished 11-2 and beat Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl. BYU retained a majority of its team from the previous year, and the new additions are fitting in seamlessly. The Bachmier brothers, Bear and Tiger, are looking like real good additions, and returning players like Jack Kelly and Will Ferrin will be huge to BYU’s success.
The Portland State Vikings lost to Tarleton State in Week Zero, 42-0. The Vikings missed a 54 and 37-yard field goal, and gave the ball away four times. BYU shold have a good game, but in sports, anything can happen. Of course, turnovers will be costly no matter what, and neither side can afford to give the ball away.

BYU Football also has a big advantage over most teams: elevation. BYU sits over 4,000 feet above sea level. Most opponents struggle at that elevation, and BYU uses it well. BYU is also an FBS team, which means their stadium is much bigger than an FCS school, which means more noise. Overall, the odds are in favor of BYU, and this should be a good game.
Score Prediction: BYU 35, Portland State: 0.
BYU is an FBS team while Portland State is an FCS team. Add in elevation and crowd noise, and BYU is definitely a favorite. Given that Portland State missed two field goals last week and couldn’t get anything on the board against a fellow FCS team, the Vikings probably won’t score here. It is up to the players to decide, and it goes down tomorrow. BYU is in control of their own destiny, and the future looks bright.
