BYU Football is back, and we are taking a look at what to expect against Portland State

BYU Football is here. With just two days to go, BYU is getting ready for another long season. The Portland State Vikings are in town, and BYU is prepared. The Cougars are heavily favored, and this should be pretty straightforward. Portland State has already played a game, falling to the No. 8-ranked team in the FCS, Tarleton State, 42-0. The Viking threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. It was PSU’s first time being shut out at home since 2003.
Last season, BYU started red hot. They won nine games in a row, including a last-minute win at Utah. BYU then lost back-to-back games against Kansas and Arizona State. BYU would close out the regular season with a win at home against Houston before beating Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl. BYU will be looking to get off to a similar start, and Portland State will be a good warm-up game, especially with a true freshman quarterback.
Bear Bachmier is BYU’s true freshman starting quarterback. He played his spring football at Stanford before transferring to BYU in the summer. Bear has a lot of upside, and he earned the starting job with his work ethic and accurate passing. Bear’s brother, Tiger, transferred to BYU with him, and the fans are excited for the Bear to Tiger connections.

Keys to the game for the BYU Cougars
- Get hot, and stay hot: BYU knows how to get hot, but sometimes has trouble staying hot. If BYU gets a big lead early, they need to stay hot throughout the game.
- Take care of the football: BYU is good when they win the turnover battle, but struggles when they give the ball away. They need to take care of the football and take it away from the Vikings as much as possible.
- Don’t play down to the Vikings: BYU needs to play its game and not play down to the Vikings. Keep the aggression high and don’t underestimate your opponent.
BYU Football is coming soon, and everyone is excited. There is a lot to love about this year’s team, and it will be a good season. Portland State is a good warm-up game for BYU this year, but they need to keep their heads up and not play down. BYU is in it to win it, and it is almost time.
BYU will play Portland State at 6 pm MDT. That game will be streamed on ESPN+.
